Recently, wealthy creator and New York University marketing professor Scott Galloway revealed the one ability he thinks every young person needs to succeed in the workplace in the face of artificial intelligence (AI) competition.
The 59-year-old said to CNBC Make It, "If I could give my 13 and 16-year-old one competence that I think would stand the test of time, it would be storytelling."
Galloway went on to say that while communication channels are always changing, the kind of narrative may not matter as much as developing one's "ability to write well, an ability to articulate ideas and an ability to present ideas with data, infographics, and slideshows."
According to CNBC Make It, the professor, who made millions of dollars in 2017 when he sold his business intelligence consulting firm for over $130 million, believes that a brand's narrative may either directly help or damage its ability to succeed.
Galloway told the publication that young people should never, ever rely only on ChatGPT or other generative artificial intelligence systems because of the value of narrative.
"We're not sure if ChatGPT will be replaced by a neural network in five years. We don't know if programming will become obsolete," he remarked.
Being an authority in their sector is another piece of advise that Galloway offered to aspiring professionals. No matter what else goes on around you, he remarked, this is a good way to succeed.
"The general gets crowded out by the specific," Galloway continued. "Identify a niche and attempt to carve it out, no matter how little.
